Soul Asylum Fan Song Covers

At the New Years show in Chicago a discussion was brought amongst some of us fans about the punk songs that have been released. Within that conversation we briefly discussed a possibility of putting together compilation album of Soul Asylum songs especially since there is more material with the release of Delayed Reaction.

This compilation album(s) would be one containing various Soul Asylum songs performed by some of the users of the site. Whether it would be on guitar, piano, or other instrument one plays, it would be a great way to show off some of the fans skills and their love for Soul Asylum.

Fans can contribute their favorite Soul Asylum song (or each forum member chooses a different songs) and we can make the album available to download right from the site.

For those interested, if there is a song you would like to perform for the album, please post it here.

Have fun! :)

That's a neat idea and a difficult decision since there are so many great songs. I've played around with a few over the years that went well. I'll get back to ya. Hummm, this may take some time...

Besides being a Soul Asylum "freak" I am also a musician.

I play in a rock band http://haegersbend.com/

I also have a lo-fi project called Neutral Drop in which I play all the instruments and sing.
Real instruments with no studio tricks to make it better.
It is what it is...lo-fi

When Karl passed away it hit me REALLY hard.
I went to our practice space, had way to many drinks and recorded this.
It was never meant to be released but I did anyway only on YouTube.

Again it's not perfect.
I didn't work on it to be perfect.
It was the feeling of the moment.

We love you Karl and we will NEVER forget!!!

Most of the Soul Asylum songs I learned to play are them covering someone else

I'd have to think up a song where my voice doesn't sound horrible...

I don't play anything, but I bet I could convince slobberbone to post a copy of them covering Cartoon for this project if it happens. They did something similar for a Jayhawks DVD fan project, and they all grew up listening to SA. Of course, there's also a bunch of material available from Grand Champeen, who played a Soul Asylum tribute show to raise money for Karl's family.

My band, We're All Just Passing Through, would love to record a cover of "Misery" for this tribute album! Whenever a deadline is announced, please let me know.

I haven't even considered a deadline, I'm sure we can all come up we something together. As of now, let's just shoot for 4 months tops, or is that way too soon(?)... if more is needed then we can extend it.

As far as time in Soul Asylum terms goes, I don't think a deadline of the span last albums though (6 years) is that necessary, is it? :P

4 months from now works well for me.

It would be great if we could get Soul Asylum to post about this with a link to this forum (through their email list, Facebook, and/or Twitter) so we get more fans to contribute!
