Misheard lyrics
Misheard lyrics
Misheard lyrics are always fun!
What are some of the lyrics that you've at first misunderstood and then later heard the real words for?
Here's some of mine:
Keep It Up
Real: Though the rain weighs down your wings
Misheard: Don't send brainwaves down your wings ()
Homesick
Real: Woe is me, I am so homesick
Misheard: What with me, I am so homesick
Gullible's Travels
Real: Guess I wore out my welcome, it's better than being alone
Misheard: You start war on my welcome, it's better than being alone (which I think sounds kind of beautiful, really )

Wow, I got a bunch after listening to all the songs when I did the lyrics for the database. I'll only include the song lyrics I had misheard prior to doing that though.
Can't Even Tell
Real: And I'm looking for a cure cause I'm bored to tears
Misheard: And I'm looking for a cure cause I'm born to kill
Cradle Chain
Real: If I die before I wake, light a fuse, bake a cake
Misheard: If I die before I wake, why don't youse bake a cake
New York Blackout
Real: And I never may enlight this darkened city
Misheard: And I never may like this darkened city
Nice Guys (Don't Get Paid)
Real: Well they packed up their violin cases, everybody stopped to leery
Misheard: Well they packed up their violin cases, everybody stalked to Larry
Standing Water
Real: I was barely living up to standards and demands
Misheard: I was barely living up to standing Entenmann's
(Entenmann's is a bakery company)
I know I do this quite often, but does anyone else find them still singing the misheard lyrics once you find out what the actual lyrics are? I also have trouble when friends point out lyrics which you may not know, but what they say is so far-fetched you know they are obiously wrong. Evertime I hear that song afterwards, those misheard lyrics enter my mind.

It took ten years for me to detect the phrase "panel of experts" in Freaks. Not sure if that counts here.
During Cartoon I usually sing "when the bleacher seats a fire in your charade it's too far," because that's what my brain heard for the first time at age 15 and I guess it got ingrained. I still don't know what that line is without looking it up.

It's actually "Well they packed up their violin cases of the finest artillery," sung with a strange inflection on the word "artillery" to fit the verse.Monolith Maniac wrote:Nice Guys (Don't Get Paid)

As in gangsters with hidden machine guns.
how the hell did you figure that one out? I've listened to the song so many times, and never could figure it out. Your line does make a lot more sense though. I remember listening to that song non stop when i was 16 or so trying to transcribe the lyrics. I was proud to just get some of the lines like "as they sychronized their watches" etc. Of course, what is that line about changing coats. Dave really makes it hard to figure out on that one.Miss Fitt 2 wrote:It's actually "Well they packed up their violin cases of the finest artillery," sung with a strange inflection on the word "artillery" to fit the verse.Monolith Maniac wrote:Nice Guys (Don't Get Paid)

I had heard the exact same thing too. I was actually goint to post that one instead of the Nice Guys (Don't Get Paid) quote.mystic_spiral_3 wrote:During Cartoon I usually sing "when the bleacher seats a fire in your charade it's too far," because that's what my brain heard for the first time at age 15 and I guess it got ingrained. I probably listened to that part for 5-10 minutes over and over trying to figure that one out for the lyrics page. I even listened to some live versions I had of this song and it sounded like the same thing. It did seem like kind of a stretch for the song to be jumping from packing violin cases to stopping to be suspicious (leery). Now of course I hear "of the finest artillery" as clear as day.Miss Fitt 2 wrote:It's actually "Well they packed up their violin cases of the finest artillery," sung with a strange inflection on the word "artillery" to fit the verse.Monolith Maniac wrote:Nice Guys (Don't Get Paid)

I'm going to change the lyrics right now. If anyone notices any other errors in the lyrics section, please feel free to let us know.
