Back when I was first getting into SA, my mom would often comment that Dave looked like Kiefer.

All this Kiefer talk makes me miss "24."

Gary Louris is a member of the Jayhawks, another Minneapolis band. The band has stopped for now, and Gary's started a solo career. On the Jayhawks board (some people here are members there too), a few years ago several female board members who crush on Gary often talked about his riveted jeans.

If you like SA and Fastball, I think you may like the Jayhawks.

Good to know!

Still, Tweedly Dee and I didn't speculate out of thin air. There was an incident at the Aquapalooza show in July that seemed like a direct nonverbal reply to our collective fascination with discussing the holes in Dave's jeans. It made me a little uneasy, but not so much that it slowed me down for long. ;)

Hey guys (or I guess I should say girls),
Well, since I love Dave so much, I wrote a poem about him. And I like sharing my writing with other people, so I figured this thread would be an appropriate place to post it and you guys wouldn't mind giving it a read.

Yet-to-be-titled tribute to David Pirner

His bright *green eyes and messy hair,
those ripped up jeans he loves to wear,
everything about him makes me squeal-
he’s got musical talent and sex appeal.
Watching him perform was the best thing ever,
I’ll be a Soul Asylum fan forever.
He had so much energy up on stage,
and in a good way he didn’t act his age,
‘cause he’s 44, I know that’s true,
but a 20 year old kid was shining through,
he smiled all night and looked so sweet,
especially when they played Easy Street.
He’s just so wonderful in every way,
and I’ll still love him when his hair turns gray.
He’s the greatest songwriter on the planet Earth,
and I really mean that for whatever it’s worth.
The lyrics he writes are so original and poetic
in both what he says and how he says it,
they’re beautiful, deep, and inspirational too,
and they’re also intelligent, colorful, and true.
And when I’m alone and sad at night
his music makes me feel alright,
and no matter how far away I go
his voice will make me feel at home.
I only wish that he could see
how much his music means to me,
and I hope someday I can shake his hand
and tell him that they’re an amazing band.
And maybe if I asked politely,
he’d let me kiss his cheek or hug him tightly.
His most famous days have come to pass,
but if you ask me he still kicks ass,
he’s an extraordinary guy, I hope he knows,
and to me he’s more than a rockstar, he’s my hero.

*maybe they're blue, I don't know, I've never met the man

I have no idea who the blond lady is.
Thanks for clarifying, Sheryl. Believe me, when you've got a little one, you want someone else to hold it for a while! Dave looked quite content doing so, though.

That's a great poem! Thanks for sharing it.

I love the man for all of him, too.

His writing is so really smart and witty, it reminds me of The Kinks. Check them out if you like Dave's writing.

George is handsome with his fuzzy hair and laid-back look. I told him he reminded me of Zach de la Rocha (singer, Rage Against The Machine).

You know, I never understood the pun in this thread's title until very recently...

I'm not getting involved in the thread, though—it's already our longest one ever and I wouldn't want to risk getting entangled here! ;)
