And no one is arguing with that... it's still Guns N' Roses as long as Axl says it is seeing as he owns the rights to the name, but that doesn't mean it's still going to feel that way for everyone... same for this band.

And, nobody's arguing with that. But, what ya gonna do? You can't change it, it is what it is - as they say.

All you can do is, "...find a reason to feel good."

Check out Soul Asylum's Facebook page for a link to a review of this show.

Re: the "Is it really still Soul Asylum?" debate:

I've softened my view of Dave & Co. continuing under the "Soul Asylum" banner: If Dave and Dan view the current incarnation as "Soul Asylum" (and they seem to), who the hell am I to disagree with them? My next live experience won't be the same, but it's their baby to name as they wish.

To clarify, again, this was not intended to be an argument regarding whether this "is" or "is not" Soul Asylum. That is something that will never have consensus. Obviously it's Dave's band and he can decide what he wants to call it or not call it and that is totally up to him and what he feels good about and wants to do. My comments were that regardless of my philosophical thoughts on the matter in a hypothetical sense, being at this show, even though i wanted it to feel like Soul Asylum, to me it did not. And granted, this was the very first show since the announcement, as I pointed out. I enjoyed the show and this was a good show on it's own accord, but to ME in that moment this is how I felt. That's all I was saying. Whether someone else or myself thinks I should feel one way or another is immaterial. Again, this will likely be an evolving thing and regardless, I will appreciate and enjoy any upcoming shows for what they are - whether they are booked under Soul Asylum or whether they "feel" like Soul Asylum to me or not. Looks like more people will get a chance at the Milwaukee show tomorrow! Hope it's awesome and I'm sure it will be : )

lucy: My post absolutely wasn't meant as a dig on you - I'm sorry if it read that way. I really was just musing, and agree that reasonable people can differ in their opinions of many things.

First time on the account in years but I just wanted to add that I was there and while their was a big void missing with Dan, this definitely felt like a Soul Asylum show and it was a great one! P-9 was unreal. Hopefully Dan will find his way back but until then I'm just glad we can still hear these songs.Peace!

Even though Dave may have been entitled to keep the name Soul Asylum, I agree with the camp who think it is wrong. It's just not the same without Dan. Personally, I think this message board should change it's name to EntertheDavePirnerFanClub.com. Lastly, Dan wouldn't be caught dead wearing a ridiculous hat like the new guy.

Re: Ragging on Justin and/or Dave because this incarnation of SA is different:

Justin's got enough problems being "the new guy"; I mean, Jason Newsted was with Metallica for 14 years but remained "the new guy" until he resigned. Dan's are huge shoes to fill - that can't be an easy adjustment to make. To rag on him for his choice of hat seems unfair, frankly.

Dave, I opt to give the benefit of the doubt: I assume he's doing what feels right. At first I wasn't thrilled about the remaining musicians continuing under the same name sans co-founder, but I've revised my view: If Dave and Dan are okay with that collective using the name, far be it from me to object. They're the baby's parents, after all.

Your mileage may, however, vary. Reasonable people can certainly disagree on many things.
