When this tour was announced, I decided that a rock'n'roll vacation was in order to see as many shows as I could. According to Mapquest, our trip was 1139 miles. We stayed at campgrounds in a tent or in our van. Sometimes I didn't remember exactly where we were or what day it was. And it was amazing! Pittsburgh was initially in the plan too, since it's only an hour away but there was a conflict and we couldn't make it to that one. Conflict is the right word too...as I was very conflicted about not being there!
I knew that Skyler and her dad were planning to go to Pontiac, so it made sense to start there. We have been hoping to get to another show with them again but it's tricky with age restrictions and locations. For anyone unfamiliar with Skyler, we made a short doc about her and probably the coolest thing I've seen happen at a show...it's very SA related of course
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9qThLq_sMg. So it was really great seeing them again and Skyler's mom too! Dave commented after the show that they were "the cutest family ever" and he might be right!
The Pontiac, MI show was at an old place call The Crofoot, outside of Detroit. There were two local opening bands and I don't think Soul Asylum went on until after 11. The sound was not-so-good here, at least in the front it was hard to hear the vocals but that happens sometimes. We taped it and it actually sounds better on the recording than it did at the show. We had a really great time at that show and it was a nice start to the week
This tour was my first ever time seeing the Meat Puppets and I was at best a casual fan...liked the songs that I knew but wasn't really familiar with them. Admittedly, this first night I was a bit antsy to see Soul Asylum but....I found myself really looking forward to them by the second night. After seeing them at 4 shows, I'll go see them again whenever they're around. REALLY enjoyed their sets. They seem to be pretty accessible to fans after shows - hanging around, signing stuff and taking photos. This was easily the best co-headlining tour I've been to. If SA has to do co-headlining shows, I'd be happy if it was always with the MP.
There may or may not be video from this show. We filmed two songs but they haven't been reviewed or edited yet...so we'll see! In the meantime, here's some photos!
